The ONE habit to get anything you want

goals habit intention Feb 24, 2026

Could it be this simple? Simple, yes. Easy, no.

There is just one habit that you can implement today, that will create anything that you want in your life.

Do you set regular goals? Do you have a resolution for 2026?

For anything you want to accomplish or achieve, you first set the goal or intention, then you determine the steps.

Then what?

Do you follow through? Do you do the things? Do you do what you say you'll do?

Most of us don't. What happens in that moment where we have the thing to do and we don't do it? What is the thought going through our mind? How do we feel?

Let me guess...you don't feel like doing it. And you talk yourself out of it. You let your thoughts re-decide and decide not to do the thing.

This can be such a sneaky phenomenon. I know it was for me. What was different about the times when I just did the thing and when I didn't.

When I did the thing, I just did it. I didn't think about it in the moment. I decided ahead of time and in the moment I didn't think about it, I just did it.

For me it was my morning workouts. If I would think about it in the moment it would look something like "do I really want to get out of bed? It's dark out, it's warm and comfy in bed, NO! I don't want to get up and workout."

So now, I don't let myself think about the decision again in the moment. Because if I do, I always choose not to do it. Even when I know I really want the long term result it will create. In the moment, I don't win the battle.

Our smart brain, prefrontal cortex, is our executive function. It can decide ahead of time, make plans, and problem solve. This is the part of our brain we use when set the goals, determine the tasks to accomplish the goal, plan the tasks, and schedule when we'll do them.

However, in the moment, our caveman brain will override these decisions with the survival instincts to conserve energy, seek pleasure, and avoid pain. So, when you ask yourself in the moment, this brain answers.

So, the only habit we need to get anything we want is the habit to follow through.

This means keeping your word to yourself. Doing the thing you said you'd do.

Simple, right?

The trick is the extra decision to not allow any thinking in the moment. Do not allow any opportunity to re-decide. You already decided. It was your highest version of yourself that decided. Trust yourself. Keep your commitment.

Just imagine for a minute what your life would look like if you just always did what you said you would do? Close your eyes. What does it look like?

Now, imagine how you'd feel about yourself? The amazing byproduct is the self-confidence, self-trust, and resilience you create in yourself. You just know you'll always do what you say.

You have confidence in yourself.

You accomplish everything you set your mind to.

The mind is so powerful, but we have to use it FOR us, not against us.
