Do you overcomplicate your problems?

blame complicate drama opinions problem problems thoughts Jun 30, 2026

Our brain has a way of doing this, so that we can avoid the effort of solving the problem. But instead we get a story of negativity, complaining, and feeling miserable.

Our brain would convince us that this is the path of least effort. Even though, it doesn't FEEL good.

However, when we get curious about the story, we can narrow down the simplified facts and find a simple solution.

Here's how!

Take your overcomplicated problem, and write down everything about it. All the thoughts, the stories, and opinions about the problem. Notice how you might have some over-dramatization or exaggerated ideas.

After you have everything unloaded from your mind, go back through and find the facts. Take a highlighter or just circle everything that is a fact. It might be just a very small part of what you wrote down.

This should be the very simplified, stripped down version of the problem.

Now your brain can go to work to think about solutions.

When we think nothing will work or blame others for an issue, we don't have any way to solve the problem. This creates an overcomplicated, over-dramatization that we just wallow in. We blame others or circumstances outside of ourself, leaving with no solutions. Then we just feel miserable. But our brain is okay with this, because then there's no action that needs to be taken. But, it doesn't feel good.

When we can simplify the problem, take full responsibility for everything within our control, we can now initiate the creative part of our brain. We can begin to problem solve and think of solutions.

These ideas will result in actions needed, which our lazy brain doesn't care for. But the feeling we get when we can see a simple problem, and start coming up with ideas for solutions, is productive and purposeful. It feels good!

A simple problem is easy to solve.

Watch this weeks Tuesday Talks to discover how our brain will have us over-dramatize any problem to avoid solving it. And how solving any problem can be simple, if we let it.

Let's train our brain to simplify and solve. It also loves to find solutions and will not leave any question unanswered.
